– We know that it is an intervention measure, but we see that it is absolutely necessary, says the mayor of Arendal Robert C. Nordli (Labor).

The infection outbreak in Arendal is out of control.

It all started at a private party in Arendal on Saturday. At 6.30pm on Thursday night, Nordli claims that 18 people have been infected.

15 people live in the municipality, while 3 people live outside of Arendal.

On Wednesday all institutions with residents throughout the municipality were closed. This means that they are closed to visitors and various offers and services have been stopped.

On Thursday, the Arendal City Council introduced even more measures.

Public events with more than 50 participants are prohibited. In private, you are not allowed to meet more than ten people.

Clubs are also required to record guests’ phone numbers and visiting times.

– We hope this means that we can eliminate the infection as quickly as possible, says Nordli.

The measures come after outbreaks dating back to a party on Saturday.

A participant from eastern Norway became infected when he was present. Now another 18 are too.

After the party, several went to the city. There they passed by the Egon restaurant and No1 Sportsbar.

You think they have good routines and you hope no one gets infected.

– We must be careful

Seven miles away in Kristiansand, it’s different. There is little infection.

Mayor Jan Oddvar Skisland (Labor Party) hopes that the infection in Arendal will not spread to Kristiansand.

– There are many here who have family, friends and acquaintances in Arendal. Therefore, we must be very careful now. We need to make sure we don’t expose ourselves to infection, he says.

In Kristiansand, national regulations on infection control apply. However, Skisland will not exclude other measures there.

– The situation in Arendal makes you a little more anxious and you wonder if something needs to be done here too. There may be measures to prevent and ensure that any infection can be traced, he says.
