Marit Solveig Nedrebø from Bygstad in Sunnfjord Township is one of those excitedly awaiting Christmas gifts and other packages in the mail. One day in November, emails were sent from Posten and PostNord.

– He said there was a package on the way to me, but in order to get it I had to pay 27 kroner by clicking a link

Nedrebø thought it was a Christmas present and that the sender had paid very little shipping.

The emails from PostNord and Posten were identical, even the amount of money was the same. Then Nedrebø understood that it was a scam and that the emails came from someone completely different.

Norwegians have never bought so much online before, as they did on Black Friday this year. That means full shelves of mail across the country, but also scammers looking to your court to trick you.

– There are many who are waiting for a package now. So it’s probably unfortunate that the scam hits someone, says Posten press manager Kenneth Tjønndal Pettersen.

It says that Norway Post does not send complaints by email that Marit Solveig Nedrebø received in her inbox.

You think there have been a lot of extra scams this year and that the scammers are getting more professional.

– I think it’s very sad. You get a little angry every time you hear it. He’s cynical, says Pettersen.

Peak season for scammers

The Western Police District has received suggestions from several others that they have received fake emails from postal and parcel providers. They warn against what they call “high season for scammers.”

Marit Solveig Nedrebø in Bygstad hopes the warnings will mislead fewer hosts.

– The corona pandemic likely means more packages will be shipped this year when people can’t collect as many. So it’s extra tragic that this is exploited by scammers, he says.
