At 2.30 pm on Sunday morning, the police confirmed the finding of another person who died in the ruins after the landslide in Gjerdrum.

Published:

– We have made a new discovery. Unfortunately, he is a dead person, says operations manager Ivar Myrbø at a press conference at 2.30pm.

It comes just hours after police found the fifth person dead on Sunday morning.

All of the human finds so far have been made by USAR teams from Oslo and Romerike Brann og Redningsetat, who have been working on the ground in the landslide zone throughout Sunday.

Work is now under way to transport the person out of the area. The find was made in the same area as the previous find Sunday morning, in the remains of a house.

Police currently have no further information to release on the deceased.

So far six people have been found dead, one on Friday, three on Saturday and two on Sunday.

The police work with identification and then notification to relatives. Four more are missing. Ten are also injured, one of them seriously.

You have used the defense paver

Armed Forces cobblestones were pushed into the landslide area in Gjerdrum at 1:30 on Sunday night, live video from the area shows.

– Now he uses the help of the defense with paving equipment, to ensure the years of entry he has to the scene of the accident, confirms to VG the operations manager Gisle Sveen in the Eastern police district.

Sveen explains that they have managed to finish the groundwork required to use the heavy equipment earlier than expected and therefore use it already tonight.

  • Has anyone died? Six people have been confirmed dead.
  • How many are missing One of the six dead has been confirmed to be among the ten missing persons. The police still hope to find people alive.

The Armed Forces engineer battalion has been ready to assist with a paver for rescue work, which can be driven and crews more safely brought to the landslide zone.

The pavement has not been used before, because it was considered too heavy for the terrain conditions in the area where it was recorded.

The tops of the vehicles slide onto a 26-meter-long bridge. The Armed Forces use the paver to cross rivers, among other things.

The walkways that have already been established and that rescue teams have used to enter the area, are made of polystyrene boards that are supported by wood and rod because the surface is unstable.

Extended search overnight

The ground search continued throughout the night and is still continuing into the early hours of Sunday.

– Tonight has lasted much longer than originally planned, because it was possible to have good progress, operations manager Terje Marstad tells VG at 07:30.

One of the reasons that progress was good was that military cobblestones became possible, he confirms.

– Without a doubt, he says and adds:

-There are certainly many crews that are tired, but they continue tirelessly, says Marstad.

This is still a rescue operation, says the fire service.

– We will make efforts on several points, but we will focus first of all on the most important points where we have made discoveries today, says the fire service.

The edges of the landslides are still unstable. So far, nine buildings with 31 homes have been taken.
