According to the Reuters news agency, several truckers have yelled and pushed the policemen.

Television footage shows angry and frustrated foreign drivers honking their horns and turning on their car lights.

The reason is simple. In recent days, thousands of drivers from much of Europe have been stranded.

Missing Christmas

The reason is that many countries have closed entry after a new and more contagious version of the coronavirus was discovered in the UK.

Thus, many transport workers will miss the Christmas celebration with the family in their country of origin.

On Wednesday night, the port of the British city of Dover was opened to traffic outside the UK.

This means that the thousands of stranded trucks can reach France and home.

Rapid tests

It was announced yesterday that the British are deploying the army to test drivers quickly so that those with a negative corona test can cross the channel, the BBC writes.

Thus, the border was opened to traffic at midnight. But it is expected to be a long time before the truck columns leave the UK. This is what generates frustration among the many drivers.

At 3.30 the first passenger ferry arrived from Dover to the French port city of Calais. A handful of cars got off the ferry.

Transport Minister Jean-Baptiste Djebarri confirmed that air traffic, ferries and Eurostar trains will resume today.

Norway continues its air strike until Christmas Day.
