The Swedish state epidemiologist is concerned.

We are beginning to approach three million cases of infection in Europe and 187,000 deaths. It’s a worrying increase, unfortunately, Tegnell said initially.
– In Sweden, we tested much more than the previous weeks, but still I would like to remind you that we are living in a pandemic that will affect us for a long time. Stockholm still accounts for a large proportion of the total number, and has an increase that affects all age groups, said the state epidemiologist.

The state epidemiologist was asked if the virus has become less deadly as fewer people die despite high infection rates.
– No, the virus has not become less lethal. This is because younger people have received it, but we are seeing an increase in mortality rates in several countries, such as the UK and Spain. Countries like the United States and India still have high death rates. Therefore, we must be careful when drawing conclusions. The risk of high death rates is still present, Tegnell said.
Infection in sport
Tegnell went on to say that there have been many cases of infection between sports teams and cited ice hockey as a concrete example. Ice hockey is one of the most popular “sweet brother” sports.

“It mostly happens in the locker room and other places, where you don’t keep your distance in time, not on the ice,” the state epidemiologist said.
– Low load
Zara Warglo, head of department of the National Board of Health and Welfare, said that the situation today is not worrying for the health service.
– There is still little load in the intensive care units and the situation is still under control. The national supply of intensive care units remains very good, Warglo said.
Five new people were reported to have lost their lives due to COVID-19, Monday through Tuesday. Thus, 5,870 people have lost their lives after contracting the coronavirus.
Responsibility for the new EU infection control warehouse
Sweden was reported to have been entrusted with an important task on behalf of several European countries.
– Sweden will build one of the new EU infection control depots. It is a warehouse that is now being established in Kristinehamn, and it will contain medical protective equipment and other equipment, such as ventilators. The EU is funding this in full, said Svante Werger, adviser to the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency.
Good numbers for Sweden
A summary from the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) for the first half of September was encouraging figures for Sweden. Based on the figures, you could read that 22 (including Norway) out of 31 European countries in the period had higher infection rates than Sweden.
