On Monday, seven new corona infections were detected in Trondheim. One of them has visited several restaurants in Trondheim over the weekend.

– It is a person who has been to seven restaurants, says the municipal chief doctor Tove Røsstad to VG.

Work is still being done to clarify the risk of infection for guests and employees.

– How many should be quarantined?

– So far we don’t have an overview.

The municipal superintendent adds that it is not certain that the person has infected many:

– It all depends on how long the person has been there, where they have been sitting. The fact that a person has been to a restaurant does not worry me much in the first place, because we have previously experienced that this has not caused the spread of the infection.

At the same time, they are taking precautions because on Monday it became clear that the outbreak in the city has to do with a new variant of the virus, that is, a mutation.

The person in question has not been to Little London, but is infected by people who are connected to the ongoing outbreak.

– Now we experience that we have a variant that can be a little more contagious, something we have in mind when we assess the risk and what measures should be implemented, says the municipal chief.

At Tuesday’s presidential meeting, City Director Morten Wolden presented the status of the crown in Trondheim, reports the Nidaros newspaper. Among other things, he highlighted Monday’s infection figures.

– So it happens that some are quite active when they are in the nightlife. There are some who have been to seven restaurants over the weekend and have had quite a hectic time. And when you’re infected too, it presents a number of challenges, says Wolden from the podium.

Outbreaks in progress

Seven new corona cases were recorded in Trondheim on Monday.

There are now at least 40 people infected in connection with the outbreak which is said to have spread to the Lille London pub, the Edge hair salon and the Bermuda bar.

Five people are connected to the ongoing outbreak in Trondheim, including three students from the same collective. One of those infected is associated with the outbreak at Hammerfest.

During Monday, 1109 tests were carried out.

New variant of the virus

The municipal chief doctor, Tove Røsstad, said last week that the outbreak in Trondheim could be due to a mutation of the virus that could be more contagious.

Samples of the virus were sent from St. Olav Hospital for analysis at FHI, which on Monday found that the virus variant has not been seen in Norway and has marked changes in the surface protein. This protein looks like a crown or thorn sticking out of the virus.

Two changes shorten the label. It also has a slightly important change in the area that allows the virus to attach to cells in the body, said section leader Karoline Bragstad at FHI to VG.

It is still too early in the analysis work to know what properties the Trondheim virus has:

– We don’t really know, we are tracking others that are similar. It may be beneficial for the virus to have an abbreviated label, perhaps not. There seems to be a link to the UK, they have had some viruses that are similar and are missing these amino acids (the building blocks of the virus protein, journaln.anm.). But it is still early in the analysis work, Bragstad said Monday.

The crown mutation found after the bus trip in southern Norway also had changes in the area that cause the virus to bind to cells in the body. FHI then said that this mutation could possibly affect infectivity.
