Police have also started evacuating residents and people within the 300-meter zone from the courtyard in Tomrefjord. According to NTB, there are about 40 people involved.

So far the source of the ammonia leak on the ship has not been located, police report at 12.30 pm.

Police first report the incident around 11:30 on Thursday. According to them, the boat is a 45 meter long and eight wide fishing boat.

One exposed to gas

Until now, a person has been exposed to the leak.

– The person is treated by health personnel and is sprayed and showers, police said at 11:40.

They later claim that the person has been taken to the hospital for a control. So far the extent of the damage is unknown.

– There is no danger of explosion, but the gas is toxic and can cause annoyance outdoors and suffocation when ingesting large amounts indoors, according to police.

The fire service is working to locate people.

– They are in the process of searching the ship for more people to get an overview, says Sindre Molnes, manager of police operations at NRK at 12.00.

The municipality has seen crisis personnel

Ammonia is a colorless, toxic gas that has a pungent odor.

Vestnes municipality has seen crisis personnel. Mayor Geir Inge Lien says they should be safe.

– We are now working to collect the threads and find out how big this is and what we need from the staff. We don’t yet know how many are covered by the security zone and how many may have to arrange alternative accommodation, Lien says.

Ask people to close the window

The police report the escape in a boat in the shipyard shortly before 11:30 and all the naudetatan were rumored towards the city. A 300 meter safety zone was established from where the ship is docked.
