Alexander Kristoff (33) was in a class of his own among the strong sprinters in the small group that battled for victory on the first stage of this year’s Tour de France.

Kristoff thus becomes the second Norwegian to ride in the Tour de France leader jersey. Thor Hushovd previously dressed in yellow.

– I’ve always dreamed of wearing the yellow shirt. Now the dream comes true. Winning the Tour de France … you can’t dream of a better start, says Alexander Kristoff in the victory interview.

The rain was pouring down on the Nice countryside, causing several of the drivers to get into trouble. The stage was marked by many overturns, but fortunately without serious injuries. Norwegian boys also stayed away from accidents.

There was a pause from the start, but the field came back together with about 60 kilometers to play. From there it was very calm until the end. Thus, the stage was set for a massive sprint.

However, two kilometers before the finish, there were chaotic scenes when almost a third of the field capsized. But luckily with Norwegian eyes, both Edvald Boasson Hagen and Alexander Kristoff sat further down the field and passed.

And in the small group that finished in the sprint, Alexander Kristoff was by far the strongest. He literally beat the others in the race.

– A fantastic feeling, sums up Kristoff.

This is the first time that Kristoff wears the yellow leader jersey in the context of the Tour de France.

Saturday was the day many were waiting for: the postponed 2020 Tour de France is finally underway. And in the best possible way with Norwegian eyes.
