Extraordinary meetings have been called in Trondheim on both the first and second days of Christmas after a record of infection on Christmas Eve.

– We will convene a presidency meeting both tomorrow and on the second day of Christmas to assess the infection situation and the various measures that may be relevant, and prepare regulatory decisions, Trondheim Mayor Rita Ottervik tells VG.

You cannot go into detail about what specific measures are being considered.

– We must obtain a comprehensive assessment of the infection situation and what may work. But there we must consider measures for Christmas in particular in relation to the delimitation of public gatherings, and what is needed to ensure that there is no contagion, he says and adds.

– We are already there that we recommend people to cancel if they intend to celebrate Christmas parties or gatherings. Limit the number of close contacts and host small light Christmas parties.

Racing against the party atmosphere

On Christmas Eve, 46 new infections were recorded in Trondheim. This is the highest in the municipality through the pandemic. This is in contrast to early December, when Trøndelag had the lowest infection in the country. Ottervik explains it like this:

– We had two outbreaks more than 14 days ago that have spread with ramifications, which we hope we have managed to reduce. There is also a party atmosphere in the city that breaks the rules and is now in the process of increasing infection rates.

On Wednesday, he told Adresseavisen that tracking the infection has revealed settings that have been attached, extensive social contact planned over Christmas and he has not been quarantined after coming from red countries.

– It bothers me a lot because there are people who do not have language problems or lack the resources to familiarize themselves with the infection control rules. They obviously don’t care about the consequences for others, Ottervik tells VG on Christmas Eve.

– It is depressing to see that someone does not care, with the consequences that it has in the restrictions in the lives of other people.
