The local Furuset community is in mourning after the 13-year-old died from injuries he sustained during a collision on Thursday. One person was arrested and charged with negligent manslaughter in the case after the driver allegedly fled the scene.

Yogathas’ name is released with the permission of the family’s welfare attorney, Morten Engesbak.

– All the employees and residents of the local community are crushed and he misses. He was part of us, says Anas Jarrari (19) to VG.

Jarrari works at the Furuset library and activity house and on the Furuset forum, where Yogathas would often stop by to play games and talk about all kinds of things. Describes the 13-year-old as an active child in the local community.

– This incident is very tragic. It has affected us all in ways that cannot be described, says Jarrari.

– pointless and unfair

The yogas used to visit the activity house several times a week. Or just to greet the staff or stay for several hours.

– I probably would have been here today, if this hadn’t happened, says Jarrari.

Jarrari describes the boy as a kind-hearted, positive child who loved people.

– And people loved him. There is nothing negative to say about him. He liked everyone. He appreciated everything he had and everything he had.

Singing and dancing

In the library, the 13-year-old used to talk with friends and pursue various hobbies. Jarrari says he was a kid who liked to do many different things.

– It was someone who entered, greeted and spoke to everyone. He always participated in activities and participated in singing and dancing. When he took the mic, he jumped on the “vibe”. No matter what, it was always useful, Jarrari tells VG.

In the last 24 hours, many in the local community have laid roses and signed a condolence protocol to remember him. “Much loved” and “Rest in peace” are among the most common greetings, says Jarrari.

– It is heavy for many in the area, and it is important that we remember it. He was a kind-hearted boy and we must not forget him.

On Thursday night, police came out and said the boy had been run over by what is possibly a black BMW / SUV. The accident occurred at an intersection in the direction of Grorud on the Maria Dehli road and the driver fled the scene.

The man accused of the negligent murder of the boy explained to the police that he panicked after the incident and saw that there were other people who could help. The man’s defender, Harald Fjeldstad, tells VG.

– You take the case very seriously. We have not made a formal statement to the bereaved, but his reaction when he received the death message yesterday was that of course it is very bad for the boy’s family. Your thoughts go to them.

Police announced Saturday that they are seeking four weeks of custody for the driver, claiming the base is a repeat offense. The man was also charged with driving under the influence once in early December, police attorney Anne Cathrine Aga told VG.

She says there is also a danger that evidence will be lost in the case, and that this also affects the custody request.

– The actual conditions are largely clarified, but there is a danger that the defendant may influence explanations about speed and intoxication, says Aga.

Defense attorney Fjeldstad tells VG that the man admits to running the child over, but has not commented on the issue of guilt. The man also admits to driving without a driver’s license.

According to the defender, he does not comment on whether he has been driving under the influence of drugs, but admits to having used drugs earlier in the day and after the incident.

Fjelstad and the client dissociate themselves from the allegation of recidivism:

– He has no record with a lot of suspicious conditions lately, nor any cars to drive with. Furthermore, this has caused him a real shock. It is unthinkable that he will drive again, the defender tells VG.

– There is also no evidence for you to lose it. Your partner has already been questioned and there is no one you can talk to to influence the investigation.
