It was Sunday just over a week ago that police were notified of a dead man in Fauske.
The man was found in a cabin near E6, near the center of Fauske in Nordland.
Last week, police said it was clear that the body had been in the cabin for a long time. Fauske’s sheriff said the body appeared “mummified.”
Identification findings at the site indicated the man may have been dead for five years, according to Avisa Nordland.
Unknown identity
Police do not know the identity of the man, but have received various tips from the public since the discovery was released.
It is estimated that the man is around 50 years old and of European origin. He is not a Norwegian citizen, according to the police, who also found identification documents in the cabin.
The man was sent to the University Hospital of Northern Norway in Tromsø for an autopsy, which may give further answers about the identity. According to NRK Nordland, police hope to obtain autopsy responses in the race.

Lausmann in Fauske, Ronny Borge, tells TV 2 that for now they keep open all possibilities of what could have happened.
– The horror is that this is murder. So we are five years behind in the investigation, says Borge.
“We do not suspect murder, but we keep all possibilities open until the autopsy is completed,” he adds.
A neighbor who found the body tells NRK that the man was lying on his back with his arms at his sides and his legs crossed.
– To me, it looked like it had fallen off. The rest is just speculation, he says.
