Donald Trump – Defeat in court

The United States Supreme Court rejects former President Donald Trump’s wish not to submit his tax returns to the New York prosecutor’s office. CNBC reports.

The decision was unanimous, writes CNBC.

Last fall, a federal appeals court gave the green light for the New York prosecutor’s office to have access to the then-president’s tax returns, NTB writes.

“Political harassment”

Trump’s attorneys appealed the case to prevent the Manhattan prosecutor from accessing tax documents that cover an eight-year period, NTB writes.

The case concerns an extensive financial investigation of Trump and his companies. Details of the financial investigation have not been made public. It is the office of Attorney General Cy Vance Jr. that is responsible for the investigation.

Trump’s lawyers have argued that the petition had to be rejected because it was too long and would be considered “political harassment” by the prosecution.

According to CNBC, the prosecutor is also investigating an alleged money laundering paid on behalf of the president to women who allegedly claimed to have been involved with him. Trump rejects these claims.

Reject protests

Soon after, it emerged that the Supreme Court also rejected Republican protests over the deadline for mail-in ballots in Pennsylvania. Reports Bloomberg.

Republicans believed that the extended three-day term was against the United States Constitution. The protest was filed in connection with Trump’s electoral defeat in November. Since the electoral defeat, Trump has made unsubstantiated allegations of voter fraud.

However, this protest was already presented in October, as part of the re-election campaign.

According to Bloomberg, state officials say fewer than 10,000 votes were registered in this three-day period, just a small number compared to what Trump would have needed had he succeeded in turning the election in his favor.

Joe Biden won with 80,555 votes in the state.
