The man who is seriously injured is over 60 years old. He was found unconscious by fire department firefighters.
Another man was also sent to the hospital, but was later released with minor smoke injuries.
The report of the fire, which was in a building with four residential units, arrived at 2:27 a.m. on Saturday night.
– It was a passerby who discovered smoke and flames in an apartment. The journalist then began evacuating residents and removed more of them, says operations manager Karianne Knudsen in the NRK East Police District.
The fire was extinguished after about half an hour, but the fire department has been working at the scene all night. The building is cordoned off for crime scene investigations.
The man in his 60s was transferred from Østfold Hospital to Oslo University Hospital on Saturday morning.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown. A total of eight people lived in the four-person home, all of whom have been accounted for.
– All four apartments are uninhabitable, says Knudsen.
