VALLE (VG) Vålerenga’s manager Dag-Eilev Fagermo bought Amor Layouni (28) and Henrik Udahl (24) and avoided sales in the January window. However, he wants another profile for Oslo East.

Published:

– We have challenges on the edge and in the middle. It is almost as if we are looking for a good player, who will be relevant anyway. Both on the edge, the inside corridor, the central midfield, or even the midfielder. Since we have players on the team, we can move around a bit. But it must be someone with some experience, says Fagermo after 1-1 against Strømsgodset on Friday.

Since last year, the Vålerenga coach has been aware that the players they hire from outside will belong to an elite league class, like last year’s successes Henrik Bjørdal and Vidar Örn Kjartansson, as well as the new acquisition Amor Layouni.

Fagermo wants another player in this layer, and Vebjørn Hoff (25) in Odd has basically everything the Vålerenga coach is looking for: he has a league routine, he can play both anchor and inside running back, he has also been a substitute midfielder and knows to Fagermo well through their joint stints at Telemark.

But Vålerenga received no offers, and before and after the training match against Strømsgodset on Friday, Fagermo stated that they gave up healthy lubrication with a contract for the remainder of the season with Odd.

– It is very expensive. The price level is so high that nobody pays. He wants Vålerenga, informs Fagermo about the player who himself brought Odd before the 2018 season.

– Vålerenga is something I could have imagined. And that I have told Odd that I see that opportunity as a good one. I have ten months left, it’s been a corona pandemic, so I’m not going to say it will cost me too much, Hoff tells VG.

At the same time, the midfielder says Odd has every right to say no, but hopes that Vålerenga will give a new impetus. He does not plan to stay longer than the rest of the year at Skagerak Arena.

– I have not received any offer, nor have I asked for it. As it is now, it is not relevant. I can talk to other clubs this summer, and if I write new things, good opportunities may be missed, Hoff notes.

Sporting director Tore Andersen at Odd will apparently say as little as possible about Vebjørn Hoff and Vålerenga. Nor does it mean what the club has said no and the sign from the Oslo club that they are leaving Hoff.

– Whether they give up or what they do, I have no comment. We do not negotiate or discuss anything through the media.

– What is the greatest value for Odd: earning some crowns with him now or staying with the player for the rest of the season?

– We must think that Hoff is a very good player for Odd and was named by the local newspaper as the best last year. We have the players we have as long as we have them, and if they sell, which is part of the game, we’ll see if we can get replacements. We work with that all the time, says Tore Andersen.

I want horn aside

Fagermo is also trying to extend his contract with Felix Horn Myhre (21) and persuade him to bet as a winger. Central midfielder Horn Myhre has only six months left on his deal with Vålerenga and was a starter at right-back in the training match against Strømsgodset.

He made the second round as an inside runner, but he also made several backcourt innings last fall.

– It’s a very good backup. I hope that Felix will extend the year, and it is not impossible for him to do so. I think it will be the best back. You can challenge both Borchgrevink and Adekugbe, believe the VIF coach.

– I know you liked it as a back, and I noticed that I solved it well. It’s not about that, but I don’t think that’s where I can be the best. So it’s much better to play than not play at all, says the 21-year-old from Ullern and opens to expand with Vålerenga.

– It may be relevant. Absolutely, says Felix Horn Myhre.
