– We were notified of the driver’s condition in Bekkefaret and stopped the bus in Klubbgata, says the director of police operations, Victor Fenne-Jensen.

Police breath test at the scene showed the driver, a woman in her 50s, had about 1.0 per thousand.

Operations manager Jon Nordmark at Norgesbuss Rogaland reports to NRK that the driver started his shift at 2:40 p.m.

The bus driver was detained by the police at 4.15pm. So he had probably been driving for more than an hour with a high blood alcohol level.

Police were notified of the driver’s condition shortly before she was detained.

A temporary questioning of the driver has been carried out. Her driver’s license has been confiscated and she has been taken to the emergency room to have a blood sample taken.

Several of the bus passengers have been questioned and the police have ended all interrogations for the night.

The bus company notified the police.

Norgesbuss is the driver’s employer. They contacted the police, after receiving reports of concern from passengers.

– We were the ones who contacted the police to request a blood alcohol level check, says Atle Rønning, CEO of Norgesbuss.

The bus the woman was driving was an articulated bus, one of the largest buses in the Norgesbuss fleet. On the route usually taken by the bus, it passes through the E39 motorway, which has a speed limit of 90 kilometers per hour.

Columbus operates bus traffic in Rogaland.

– We take the situation seriously, says Elisabeth Tostensen, communications consultant at Kloumbus.
