Storting Faces 260 Million Electric Shock In Increased Housing Support – E24

E24 discussed this week how Rødt was easy to help in a crisis against high electricity prices. After a last year characterized by low electricity prices, the situation has been reversed this winter.

– Some of those who have the least, can now receive help with the large electricity bill that is looming these days. It’s good that the Storting accepted that, Moxnes says in a press release.

High electricity prices

The winter cold has led to several records for electricity consumption in Norway recently, and prices have risen to their highest level in several years.

E24 has mentioned several electricity customers struggling with high bills and trying to reduce their consumption.

According to some analysts, people’s electricity bills could triple from February last year to February this year.

Last week, the daily price of electricity reached a kilowatt hour maximum. In individual hours, the price has been up to 2.57 crowns maximum, according to the NordPool energy exchange.

Suggested additional support

According to Entelios, the average price of electricity in 2021 will probably be below the level of both 2018 and 2019. Moxnes has believed that the situation this winter differs from previous periods with high electricity prices, because there are many unemployed.

It refers to Rødt’s proposal for additional support for the more than 200,000 who are now fully or partially unemployed, and other groups receiving public benefits.

– At the same time, there are many with bad advice who do not get the support they need. Rødt also suggested that layoffs and other unemployed people, people receiving job clearance benefits, the disabled, minimum retirees, and others in need should receive a one-time payment to ensure they can afford electricity, but sadly only SP and SV supported in committee, says Moxnes.
