According to anonymous sources, Trump is very unhappy with the lawyers’ efforts. He claims two anonymous sources with whom the CNN television channel has spoken.
The former president is said to have been enraged that top defender Bruce Castor failed to bring out what he believes to be the core of the defense, that the trial is unconstitutional.
– The American people are smart enough to elect a new administration if they don’t like the old one. They did just that, Castor said in the introduction.
He later said that Trump “was removed from the electorate.”
Republican Bill Cassidy, who was one of six Republicans who voted with Democrats on Tuesday, says he was not overwhelmed by the arguments of Trump’s lawyers. He previously voted against the Supreme Court case.
– I think they were disorganized and entangled with arguments. It wasn’t convincing, he says.
Many lawyers retired
Since the November presidential election, Trump has made accusations that he won a landslide election and that Democrats were behind extensive electoral fraud. He repeated this unfounded claim in his speech to an angry crowd that stormed Congress on January 6.
The advocacy group was seen together just over a week ago. This turned out as expected, one of the sources tells CNN. Trump’s allies must have been surprised that the lawyers changed their speaking time just before the trial began.
Several commentators in the US media have pointed out that Trump has not brought in a star lawyer this time. Several have pulled out along the way after disagreeing with the client on the strategy.
– we had a good day
Trump’s attorneys did not communicate with their arguments Tuesday night.
56 out of 100 senators voted for the trial to be in line with the constitution, among all Democrats and six Republicans. 44 Republicans voted against.
– I think we had a good day, says Bruce Castor, despite discontent with his efforts. He says the strategy will not change in the next few days, writes CNN.
The trial will take place on Wednesday at 12 noon local time in Washington DC.
After Democrats have presented their case for up to 16 hours on Wednesday and Thursday, Trump’s advocates will begin the line of argument on Friday. They also have up to 16 hours on them. After that, four hours are reserved for questions, before it is decided whether a witness will be called. Therefore, the case can last until next week.
