Meteorologist Paul Grisham was in Antarctica on a 13-month stay for the United States Navy in 1967, as part of “Operation Deep Freeze.” At this time, Grisham was in his 30s. At one point or another, he managed to lose his wallet at the McMurdo Station research base, writes The Guardian. Eventually it went into oblivion and no longer thought about the matter.

In connection with the demolition work at the research station in 2014, two wallets were found. One of them belonged to Grisham, and after much deliberation it was returned to its owner.
