From night to Saturday, a hut was burned to the ground in Risøyhamn, Andøy municipality in Vesterålen in Nordland.
Only one person out of six managed to rescue himself.
News broke earlier today that Kripos and local Nordland crime technicians have found two of the five missing dead in the ruins of the fire.
At 3pm, Nordland police report that another person has been found dead at the scene.
– Fire strikes brutally with enormous consequences. The police have great compassion for those affected. Therefore, we will do our best to find all the missing ones, says operations manager Jørn Karlsen in a press release.
Police fear that the two, who are still missing, were also killed in the violent fire.
– We have good faith that we will find them, says Karlsen.
Dramatically
The man, who managed to escape, had to run several kilometers to be notified of the fire, since there is no mobile phone coverage in the area.
According to the Dagbladet reporter, known locally in the area, the hut was located in a remote area not far from Bjørnskinnsfjellet.
On Saturday, the weather was characterized by sleet and rain and the temperature exceeded 0 degrees.
– He had to run into what he was sleeping, operations manager Jørn Karlsen in the Nordland police district told Dagbladet on Saturday.
Police inspector Per Erik Hagen, chief of police in Lofoten and Vesterålen, says the man left the burning hut through a window.
– He came out only with what he had put on, he was not wearing shoes, but he was running barefoot, says Hagen.
– Several kilometers
Then the man ran across the terrain to the road, a distance of about four kilometers. Then, it is said that he ran further down the road towards a residential area in Bjørnskinn, until he found someone to warn.
– Yes, he had to run several kilometers, confirms Hagen.
On-site task manager Jørn Karlsen confirms that the distance from the cab to the road is about four kilometers.
– When no one could be rescued, he ran for help. He was running barefoot, Karlsen tells Dagbladet.
New searches
Nordland police today reported the discovery of three dead in the ruins of the fire following the tragic fire in the cabin.
Forensic technicians from the Nordland and Kripos Police District began work passing through the scene of the fire yesterday afternoon. They lasted until 0200 on Sunday night. Then the night’s work was completed. During these hours, finds were made of two people who had both died, it is said.
At 3 in the afternoon the news came that a third deceased had been found.
The three people who have been found dead have not been identified, but will be sent to Troms University Hospital for autopsy and identification.
Investigators from the Kripos crime scene and the Nordland Police District are now conducting further searches of the fire site.
– Work at the fire site is meticulous, extensive and difficult. They will work as long as necessary, said director of operations Jørn Karlsen in the Nordland police district in a press release at 12 o’clock.
Police are still unable to say anything about the possible cause of the fire.
– Pri 1 is to find the missing. Once this is done, the technicians will conduct investigations to discover the cause of the fire. We have no reason to believe that this is anything more than a tragic accident, says Karlsen.
