Education Minister Guri Melby (V) and Research Minister Henrik Asheim (H) are now preparing the country for the crisis with measures to paralyze the school and education sector for a long time.
Their message is clear: students and parents with children in school should also be prepared for digital learning and the red level, respectively. then that the current measures expire on Tuesday, January 19.
– Infection in children is underestimated
– Individuals must be prepared for full homeschooling in high school. That may be the level we are at. We are now planning three scenarios, one of which is to maintain the red level in schools and further adjust. That could be the result next weekend. To this day, it’s too early to tell, Melby tells Dagbladet.
– Many will probably think that you have now decided to maintain the current level, or adjust it?
– For us it is important that people are prepared for austerity. So it’s the case that we have to look at the infection numbers this week anyway, says Melby.
The government announced a crown press conference on Wednesday at 3 pm The press conference will be attended by Justice Minister Monica Mæland, Health Minister Bent Høie, Health Director Bjørn Guldvog and FHI Director Camilla Stoltenberg.
– Could have been clearer
The liberal leader criticized himself on behalf of the government for the way in which the closing of January was communicated. She understands that some felt the tightening came suddenly on Sunday, January 4, and without warning.
– Before Christmas it could have been even clearer that it could be tighter after the New Year so that students and educational institutions were better prepared. At the same time, it is difficult to increase infection rates. As for the measures themselves, I think we did the right thing when infection rates increased. Two weekends ago the government received different advice from the NIPH and the Norwegian Health Directorate, and settled somewhere in between, says Henrik Asheim.

All high schools and high schools in the country went to the red level on January 4. This way they can stay for a longer period of time, Melby warns.
– If contagion rates do not go down, it is difficult to imagine that we can facilitate any measure in the school. With current infection rates, there will be no relief. Then we should consider squeezing, says Melby.

– It is probably correct to consider the easing of the measures as a positive surprise in the near future, adds the conservative minister.

Melby and Asheim want to go back to regional variations, which many have championed.
– This is something we are considering, and it may mean that it will be fine to clear places with little infection and squeeze where there is a lot. We didn’t choose it in the previous round, based on the advice we received, but of course we are continually considering it, says Melby.
