Dangerous houses in fast clay areas: here the landslide took place before Christmas

Nine houses were evacuated from the mountainous area a few kilometers from Gardermoen airport just before Christmas Eve last year. One resident reported what could be a mudslide of the clay masses about 15 meters from his porch. Cracks in the ground were discovered after a large clay slide a few hundred meters down a stream.

Then the Nannestad municipality raised the alarm and transferred those affected to a hotel in Gardermoen, the same hotel now used by evacuees and family members after the disaster in the neighboring municipality of Gjerdum.

When Dagbladet visits the landslide area in Nannestad, NGI is in full swing with terrain investigations and has installed a drilling rig to the edge of the landslide, which is located 15 kilometers from the landslide site in Gjerdrum.

Doing research

Before Drilling Manager Martin Lian Akerholt and Drilling Assistant Marius Grønlien began their assignment, NVE’s landslide experts had marked drill points around and in the landslide area approximately 15 kilometers away. of the landslide of the disaster in Gjerdrum.

The drill is used to retrieve a cylinder with clay samples, which is sent to the laboratory for further examination. The first sample is drawn from a depth of six to seven meters. Akerholdt cuts a sample from the bottom of the cylinder and rubs it with his hand.

– If this had been fast clay, now it would have been liquid, says Akerholt

Akerholt and Grønlien consider the area to be relatively safe and the investigations they do in Nannestad are exactly the same as those now carried out by colleagues at the crash site, leading to the evacuation of almost 1,000 people, seven dead, three missing and one local community in crisis.

Mapper

– Now we will find out how dangerous it is and map the amount of fast clay, says Geir Bendik Hagen, who is a senior engineer at NVE, to Dagbladet. He assumed responsibility for the project after his colleagues had to deal with the acute situation in Gjerdrum.

It states that the Nannestad homes will be evacuated until January 15. He then hopes that NVE, in collaboration with NGI, will finish the analysis of the area that is in a fast clay zone.

– We have stability on the slope. If there is poor stability, action will be taken.

Dagbladet has contacted several of those affected who have had to celebrate Christmas far from their homes in danger.

Now they hope that NVE can meet the deadline so they can get an answer on whether or when they can move home.

– As it is now, I think we’ve hit the January 15 deadline, says Hagen, who attended a public meeting Wednesday night.

Distressing

Hans Thue (Labor Party) is mayor of Nannestad municipality and has seen with amazement what has happened to the southern neighbors.

The cause of the landslide may be in the documents.

The cause of the landslide may be in the documents.

– This seems even stronger to us since we have just evacuated several families from an area prone to landslides, says Hans Thue, to Dagbladet.

All nine houses in Nannestad were evacuated because the municipality feared that a landslide would occur in the area inhabited by Nannestadveien.

– It’s heartbreaking to see what happened on Ask in Gjerdrum. The safest was ripped up in seconds We have great compassion for the families and all evacuees, says Thune.

He says that the Nannestad municipality contributes everything it can to help the neighbors.

– We sent water, our crisis team has worked continuously, we have staffed the evacuation center and we have handed over staff to the municipal administration in Gjerdrum, says Thune.

In addition, Nannestad has taken over the work related to the crown, such as testing, vaccination and infection detection.

Thune wants to praise his colleagues who are now in crisis 24 hours a day.

– Mayor Anders Østensen and City Director Frits Arne Eriksen are doing a fantastic job these days, says Thune.
