The search in the Gjerdrum landslide zone has been carried out throughout Monday.

So far, seven people have been found dead. Three still have missing status.

At 6.30 pm, the emergency services reported the latest developments.

– The dogs have marked, among other things, on various objects, but no finds have been made, says the leader of the police task Ivar Myrbø.

He says rescue teams plan to work through the afternoon and into the night.

– There are still difficult conditions, but it is not a problem to continue overnight, says Myrbø.

Rescue operation continued

The emergency services continue to work on the basis that there may be survivors of the landslide.

– We have been in a rescue operation and we still do. We have had important teams within the landslide area, who have worked methodically and well. This has not led to any new discoveries so far, Operations Manager Roger Pettersen said at 3 p.m.

The police will work in full force throughout the afternoon and into the night.

– We still believe that survivors can be found, he said.

– Still hopeful

The search is on day six, and the fire department indicated that many airspaces are still being discovered in the avalanche.

“We find cavities all the time, and as long as we find them, there is hope,” said operations manager Morten Thoresen in the fire service.

If a person is trapped in a cavity with insulation and access to liquid, then he can survive for a long time.

– When do you lose hope of finding survivors?

– So far it is not an issue, we are just working on more, he said.

Rescue teams worked, among other things, to investigate a house of six people on Monday afternoon.

– The whole building must be moved by hand. Needless to say, there is a lot of work. The dogs go in first, and when they score, we go in, Thoresen said.

Continuous movement in the avalanche

NVE stated Monday afternoon that there is still movement in the landslide area.

– There are shells from a few landslides from time to time, the last one at 4 o’clock earlier today with 50 meters wide, said regional manager Torill Hofshagen.

NVE works continuously with the monitoring of the area.

– What is needed to make this a safe area in the future?

– This is something for which the municipality has asked for help. We are already in the process of planning what resources are needed to rebuild the area in a safe and professionally good manner again, Hofshagen said.

Demanding reconstruction

– Will it be safe to go back?

– There are some houses in an avalanche zone that it will not be possible to return to, including those that are completely on the edge. We are working to find out how big this area is, said the regional manager.

He said the reconstruction work will be very demanding.

– It is demanding to stabilize the avalanche pit itself and the sides, but it is possible. It is possible to return to a structure in the center of Ask that will make this a pleasant place to live, Hofshagen said.

Seven found dead

Six of the seven dead have been identified. They are Eirik Grønolen (31), Lisbeth Neraas (54), Bjørn-Ivar Grymyr Jansen (40), Alma Grymyr Jansen (2), Marius Brustad (29) and Charlot Grymyr Jansen (31).

The conditions in which emergency services work are very demanding, and it took two days before ground crews were able to enter the landslide area. Prior to this, the search was conducted exclusively from the air.

The avalanche pit itself is about 700 meters long and 300 meters wide and challenging to get around.
