– It hurts me to see, but at the same time I appreciate the work that the rescue teams have done. They have worked day and night to get people out, but sadly some are still missing, King Harald tells reporters.

They are outside the Olavsgaard Hotel, where the first people who were rescued and evacuated after Wednesday’s rapid clay landslide now live.

On Sunday, the royal couple visited the Ask center and met with emergency services still working to search for people in the landslide area. Then the trip went to Olavsgaard, where they met the survivors.

– They are strong people, with strong stories. It gives hope, says Queen Sonja.

– I have a hard time finding things to say, because this is absolutely horrible. It is very difficult to put this into words, says the king.

Queen Sonja highlights the great spirit of hard work that has been shown in the days after the landslide.

– I am impressed throughout Norway who send clothes and everyone who wants to help. It is humanity that must touch and feel.

The ballroom, reception and basement of the Olavsgaard Hotel were full of clothes, food and toys on Thursday morning. In the end, there were so many gifts that they had to say enough.

An incredibly painful situation

The strongest Sunday was talking to the survivors.

– We were prepared for what we were going to face, but it is strong, says the queen.

King Harald adds that it is stronger for the survivors than for the royal couple.

– The feeling you have today, which is pain, will become a good activity to recreate what was lost. May they have the strength to want to move on. Together with the municipality, which does everything possible to get Gjerdrum back on its feet. People have something in us that makes us face this, we have a stubbornness in us. We want you to get back to normal and have a good life again, says Queen Sonja.

Crown Prince Haakon also participated in the meetings in Gjerdrum on Sunday. Outside the other hotel used by the evacuees, he talks about what he has seen and heard.

– I have met both those who are relatives of someone who has been confirmed dead and someone who is missing, as well as those who have lost their home, says the Crown Prince in front of the hotel in Gardermoen.

Furthermore, he says it is clear to the Crown Prince that there are many in Norway who sympathize with those affected.

– There are strong impressions and violent stories, and it hurts to feel how they feel. At the same time, I think it’s very cute, we see how people send clothes. More than necessary has arrived
