Early Sunday morning, police confirmed that another person had been found dead in the landslide in Gjerdrum.

Five people have died in the massive landslide that took place on the night of December 30. Five people are still missing.

Operations manager Gisle Sveen told NTB Sunday night that the search will continue in its entirety.

The person who was found dead on Friday has been identified. Eirik Grønolen, 31, was found in the landslides.

Sveen says firefighters will eventually enter evacuated homes in the area that were cordoned off after the avalanche to retrieve abandoned pets.

– But that work hasn’t started yet, it’s also about capacity, he tells NTB Sunday morning.

Around midnight on Sunday evening, the Armed Forces entered the avalanche zone in Gjerdrum with a vehicle equipped for paving.

Assistance from the Armed Forces

The path to be traced will allow search teams to travel more safely in the volatile landslide. The vehicle is manned by personnel from the Engineer Battalion of the Armed Forces.

Specially trained dogs marked Saturday night at various points, which rescue teams have examined overnight through Sunday.

– It will take many hours and last all night, but currently it is not known how long. It’s also important that we take a few breaks from the place so it’s not our scents that set the dogs, said operations manager Kenneth Vangen on the fire service Saturday night.

Rescuers are searching for survivors who may be in pockets of air under collapsed buildings in the landslide masses, according to Vangen. (© NTB)
