GJERDRUM (Dagbladet): While work is in full swing in hopes of finding survivors in the landslide area in Gjerdrum, the municipality itself has tried to extract important information from the evacuated area in Ask.
In Herredshuset there is, among other things, an archive of what can be key information during the very demanding work that is being carried out.
Gjerdrum’s head of planning, surveying and construction, Berit Adriansen, confirms to Dagbladet that the municipality has extracted several documents from the building in the evacuated area. The hope is that some of them can make the search job easier for rescue teams.
– A good part of the documents are only found in the historical archive on paper. It’s located in Herredshuset, which has been evacuated, Adriansen says.
Despite the fact that initially no people are allowed into the evacuated area, active efforts have been made to obtain the documents. City employees have been able to retrieve what are described as critical building documents, in close company with emergency services teams.
Trying to help
– We operate with a very high level of security and we are followed inside and outside the building by rescue teams, says the municipal leader.
In the first instance, it has been very important to obtain documentation that can help rescue teams on the scene to find out. These are, for example, building plans and drawings that can help rescue teams to orient themselves or contribute to safety analysis in the disaster area.
On Saturday, work is still under way to obtain documents that may be useful. According to Adriansen, the police have asked the municipality to hand over any documentation that could help shed light on the incident.
– This also applies to documents dating back to the past. It’s a considerable amount of work, with limited access to files, he says.
So far, the police have refused to comment on the documents or their contents.
– It belongs to the investigation steps and is not something I can comment on now, task leader Knut Hammer tells Dagbladet.
It will take time
In addition to the documentation that has been handed over to the police, the municipality receives many inquiries from the media with requests for access to documents related to development and prior security assessments in the area where the landslide occurred.
Adriansen now says that these documents cannot be delivered immediately.
– It will be a long time before we can make all the documentation available. Currently, parts of the archives are inaccessible to us, explains the municipal leader.
New dead found
On Saturday night, the police came out with information that a fourth person had been found dead in the landslide area in Ask. It was the third find on Saturday. Furthermore, it was confirmed that Eirik Grønolen (31) was found dead on Friday.
Six people are still missing after the catastrophic landslide that took place the day before New Year’s Eve.
Firefighters’ search continued well beyond Saturday night after they now managed to establish secure entrances to the landslide area.
