Police found a dead person in the baby boiler suit who was found wearing a life jacket at sea in Karmøy on Friday. The person is probably a child.

– During examinations of the jumpsuit, we found remains of what is probably a child inside the suit, says lawyer on duty Erik Engløkk in the southwest police district to NTB.
It says that the circumstances indicate that the person may have been in the water for a long time, and there is nothing so far to indicate that it is a criminal act.
Earlier in the afternoon on Friday, the discovery of a boy’s suit with a life jacket was reported on the southernmost water’s edge at Karmøy in Rogaland, not far from Skudeneshavn.

Engløkk says that it is difficult to say anything about how long the dead person may have been in the water.
– You probably talk more about months than weeks or days, but there is speculation, he says.
The person has not yet been identified. The person in question will now be sent for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. The police identification group will work to find the identity of the deceased person.
Engløkk says it will probably be some time before they can determine the identity and cause of death with certainty.
It can be from abroad
– At the moment, we believe it may be an accident. The boy may have drifted to shore after a boat accident outside the country’s borders, Engløkk says.
He says that the marking on the clothes and the life jacket may indicate that it is a person from outside, but emphasizes that it cannot be ruled out that the person is Norwegian.
– The find is still not suitable for anyone who has been reported missing in Norway, says Engløkk.
On Saturday, emergency services will conduct a thorough search in the area where the dead was found.
