In a press conference at 15 informs the police that a dead person has been found in the landslide area in Gjerdrum.
Family members have not been notified of this, according to police.
– We don’t want to say anything about gender or age, says Task Manager Roy Alkvist in the police.
An ambulance helicopter was heading towards the area of the landslide around 2 p.m., but it was unclear what this meant.
– We are down with teams from Uso, and we also have police dogs inside, as well as support equipment so we can get people out quickly if necessary, Alkvist said.
Looking in red zone
Rescue teams began a red zone search in the landslide area today. The search is carried out in the field.
Until now, it has been considered too dangerous to enter the avalanche area on foot.
– We are in the process of searching for landslides in the lower zone. We are with USAR crews and police dogs. We have chosen not to use the paver due to ground conditions. The crews have entered with the help of styrofoam plates, Operations Manager Roy Alkvist in the Eastern Police District said at a news conference at 12 o’clock.
Paving drops for now
The Engineer Battalion of the Armed Forces is installed with a 50-ton paver. It consists of a steel structure that is arranged and becomes a 26 meter long bridge.
The Armed Forces use the paver to cross rivers, among other things.
Due to the conditions of the terrain, until now it has been decided not to use the paver.
I’ve searched through the night
The search has continued in full force for more than two days. Alkvist notes that there is still talk of a rescue operation.
– We have worked hard all night and we are still working on the rescue operation. There has been an overflight last night and no discoveries have been made, says Alkvist.
He says they are still waiting to find people who are alive.
On Thursday, one of the missing dogs after the landslide was found safe and sound.
Nine people are still missing. We are talking about women, men and children.
Police say there are many people in the area of the landslide. There may be more and fewer people in the area than the nine missing.
NVE is following the situation
1,000 people were evacuated Wednesday night and it was announced that a further evacuation might be necessary.
– Parallel to the rescue work, we are working in evacuated areas. We are also working with laboratory analysis to obtain a professional basis for assessing the size of the evacuated area, regional manager Toril Hofshagen at NVE said at a press conference Friday morning.
She further says that there has been further bombardment at the avalanche pit and that it is still unstable.
On New Year’s Eve, another 46 people were evacuated from 14 houses in an area north of the avalanche in Gjerdrum. The cause is cracks in the ground, according to NVE.
