GJERDRUM: – We have selected the areas where survivors are most likely to be found, says operations manager Ketil Lund.
– We operate and prepare to bring ground personnel. “We haven’t done it yet, and we hope we get it today,” task leader Ketil Lund told VG on Friday morning.
Until now, rescue teams have avoided entering the avalanche zone, because they thought it was too dangerous.
When three rescue teams were shot down from a helicopter yesterday, the task leader said he was on the verge of indefensibility.
The teams at the site are now preparing a path to the avalanche.

Will use the light of day
It is snowing heavily in the avalanche area at Gjerdrum. At the house of culture in Ask, there is an influx of rescue teams to change shifts, who will replace the night crews.
Ten people are not yet counted. It concerns both women, men and children.
The temperature has slipped just below zero.
The sun rises a little after nine. Police have used the time before 9 o’clock for handovers and planning meetings.
VG has not yet been confirmed when the operation will begin.

Entering from the west side
The plan at this point is to enter the landslide zone from the west side.
– We entered from the safest place, in the middle of the west side. Then we’ll see if we can do it pretty quickly, as long as we have daylight. We hope to achieve this, says Operations Manager Lund.
The red field shows the landslide area at Gjerdrum. On Wednesday, police said the landslide is approximately 700 meters long and 300 meters wide. Since then it has expanded a bit as it has flaked where new masses have emerged. The west side of the landslide area corresponds to the left edge in this image.
There are no plans to dig into the landslides. While some houses are relatively intact in the fast clay, others are completely gone.
– We will not dig, we will take what is above. We have selected the areas where survivors are most likely to be found, says task leader Lund.

Will use Swedish crews
The Swedish USAR crew is scheduled to be dispatched. These are rescue teams with special experience in rescue and search in populated areas.
14 people from the USAR crew are present.
– We also use our own Norwegian crews with dogs. We have more to play in, but we have to think about safety, because, like I said, it is a dangerous area, says task leader Lund.
