Throughout the night, the search has been in full swing with all emergency services and volunteer organizations, the municipality, NVE and NGI, but the search has not yet been successful.

Ten people have the status of missing after the disaster. Police say they still have hopes of finding people alive.

– The search is still a rescue operation. We will continue to do so until otherwise decided. As long as there is hope of finding living people, that’s the whole approach, says task leader Dag Andre Sylju Thursday morning.

– Based on the magnitude of this disaster that we have witnessed, how much building mass has been detached and that there are people who have not been counted, we cannot rule out that there are people in the area.

Expect more house races

Working conditions remain very demanding. More than a day after the large landslide, the landslide is still in motion and police expect more houses to collapse.

Therefore, it is too dangerous to enter the area on foot.

– There are still buildings on the edge and we really expected them to blow up overnight. So if that happens, then there is the wait.

– There is always an assessment of how safe it is for the crew to enter there.

The edges are still raging

Laila P. Høvik at NVE told Dagbladet Thursday morning that the edges of the avalanche are still raging and unstable.

– Additional soil samples will be taken today. NVE is in dialogue with police to see if certain areas can eventually be used, he says.

Task leader Sylju says that, among other things, images of the landslide area are analyzed to find out which areas are most exposed to new landslides.

– We carry out continuous evaluations from hour to hour and continue a rescue operation while the evaluation is ongoing. We invest the necessary resources.

By 11 p.m. Wednesday night at the latest, two new residential houses collapsed in the swift crater. The avalanche has taken a total of 31 homes, spread over nine buildings. In addition, there are six garage houses with five garage spaces each.

– Until the light conditions improve a bit during the day, there is not much I can say about the damage. But there is reason to believe that there is extensive property damage and several houses that have slid into the landslide area, Sylju says.
