In the early hours of Wednesday morning, a large landslide occurred in the municipality of Gjerdrum in Viken. Several people are injured.

Jan-Tore Bariås (60) was on his way to work when he encountered a big “terrifying snowstorm”.

– I put the window cleaner in another gear and all of a sudden there is no way left, so I fall down the abyss and fall into a solid hole with clay. he tells the Dagbladet reporter at the Olavsgaard Hotel, where the evacuees have been transported.

He himself estimates that he fell seven to eight meters, vertically downward.

– I landed on the hood, slapped the airbag in the middle of my face and flipped over on the roof – before giving my river a shove and thinking: Are you awake or are you sleeping?

– I just lay there and wondered what the hell was that blow, he adds.

He quickly understood the seriousness.

– It was completely surreal. This is something you see in bad movies from the old days.

There was a lot of blue clay and bad soil conditions, he says. Finally, the seat belt was loosened.

– I lost my phone, unfortunately. The car is still idling if it is alive. I let go, got out of the car, and started pacing the camp.

In the landslides he found an older man, he says.

– Maybe between 75 and 80 years. He had been with the house for 40-50 meters and is sitting in the middle of the clay mound, barefoot and wearing a T-shirt.

It was 04.55.

– It’s getting cold, I thought, so he took my work jacket. We follow.

Finally, Bariås and the old man were discovered by a rescue helicopter. They were towed away, the older man first, and transported to the Gjerdrum city hall for registration before being put up at the Olavsgaard Hotel.

Bariås is intact, although covered in clay.

– It has been an “experience outside of yourself”. I thought this only happened in bad horror movies, but I’ve been at it today.

Praise both the police and the health and hotel staff.

– They have managed to create a suitable command center in one hour. Kind regards to all the agencies involved.

You cannot exclude missing persons

Police wrote in a press release at 9:41 a.m. Wednesday that several people were missing after the landslide, but wrote in a correction at 10 o’clock that so far no one has been reported missing.

– Emergency services have great resources in the area and work to evacuate landslide-prone residents, evacuate people in danger zones, and get an overview of missing persons. Several people were injured and flown to the hospital, police write.

Task leader Roger Pettersen confirms, however, that people may be within the area of the landslide.

– There are those who may not get theirs. This does not mean that they are missing. For now, we have no information that anyone has died from this incident here, Pettersen says.
