GJERDRUM (VG) Øystein Gjerdrum (68) was caring for her daughter’s children when the landslide occurred in Ask, just 20 meters from the house.
– I woke up with the house shaking. I thought it was a plow truck or something, and I thought it was rough to plow. Then the power went out and it got dark, and then the neighbor came in like a storm and said there was a landslide and we have to evacuate.
It is just after four o’clock when Gjerdrum wakes up. She takes care of the grandchildren at her daughter’s house while she works.
Police have received the first reports of the landslide in the Romerike municipality of Gjerdrum. In a few hours, up to 200 people will be evacuated and more people will be sent to the hospital.
Several houses have been added to the landslide, but so far no disappearances have been reported.
Gjerdrum says that he woke up and dressed the children. While they were still inside, there were three tremors. Outside he sees a large, deep hole a few feet from the house.
– I stopped and wondered if there shouldn’t be a townhouse here. I tried to look down into the crater, and then I think I saw rooftops 20 meters deep, he says.
Together with the neighbor, who had his cat rescued from the house, the other neighbors wake up in the apartment.
– We ran down and woke them up. We then tried to wake people up as we went along, but I was very concerned because the landslide was so close. I just waited for it to loosen up, says Gjerdrum.
He says that he has been behind him for many years in the health service, and that they remained calm as they walked from the landslide area to the City Hall.
– It’s completely silent outside. We walked towards the center, but all this that we walk on is on a slope, so we waited for something to happen, so we walked fast.
– I must say I was very dry in the mouth and I was very scared. I was just waiting for him to smoke.

Gjerdrum and the neighbors were among the first to arrive at the town hall, he says.
The municipality has put crisis personnel, and they are reaching an apparatus that has begun to organize. More residents are arriving in the area and there will soon be buses to transport them. Gjerdrum is satisfied with the municipality’s efforts.
