In the morning, several buses took the evacuees to the Quality Hotel Olavsgaard, which is located along the E6 north of Oslo. Kjell Kristiansen arrived at the hotel at 08:00.
– I was asleep when the phone rang. It was the wife of the wife who lives closest to the crash site. He asked us to leave immediately, says Kristiansen.
It was 4:20 when the 68-year-old man was called. He put on his jacket and hat and went out with his wife.

100 meters away
– Now I only have the clothes I wear. Fortunately, I had the card holder in my pocket, says Kristiansen.
He estimates that the couple’s home is less than 100 meters from the crash site. He has lived in the municipality for 41 years, but moved into an apartment in Nystulia in February.
– When we left, they told us to go to the town hall. There we register. And then they took us here. On the way I saw a long line of ambulances and police cars, says Kristiansen.
He still doesn’t know much about the extent of the damage.
– It was dark. So now I’m waiting for more information from the municipality.
– 2020 has been pretty bad. And now we have to live this at the end of the year, sighs the 68-year-old.
I thought it was criminal
Heidi Wang was awakened by the noise of a helicopter on Wednesday morning.
Then there were two helicopters with searchlights flying over the area. I thought they were police helicopters looking for criminals. Immediately afterwards, a neighbor knocked on the door and said he had to evacuate. When I noticed that the light was also gone, says the 55-year-old man.

She took the dogs Tinka and Luna with her and went out. Eventually, she was taken to Olavsgaard by bus with other evacuees. He lives up to 200 meters from the crash site, but did not see the damage due to darkness.
Just before 9 am she was picked up by her daughter Nadia Wang, who lives in Skedsmokorset.
– I hope to go home today, but I still don’t know if it will be possible.
– A shock
Kristoffer Fladby lives 40 meters from the edge of the race. He didn’t wake up from the avalanche itself, but instead was woken up by his mother, who thought he should check how he looked outside.
– It was a shock. Forests that are usually a kilometer apart were suddenly 30 or 40 meters from the house. Fortunately, the end of the landslide came uphill, Fladby says.
He has not yet been evacuated, but he is convinced that more will come.
NRK has spoken to witness Lindy Paulsen, who says: – It was so unreal. I turned on the lighthouse and got closer, then I only saw a huge hole in the ground and many houses had disappeared.
NRK met him and Eva Lillo Larsen at the Olavsgaard Hotel, where the evacuees were transported.
– They were dramatic minutes when we had to evacuate from home and home and we got nothing more than what we were, says Lillo Larsen.
