An earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale has been recorded 46 km southeast of the Croatian capital, Zagreb. It was registered by the International Seismological Center, EMSC, around 12.20.

The Croatian Red Cross reports a “very serious situation” in Petrinja after today’s earthquake Twitter.

One child has been confirmed dead and several injured, the city’s mayor told Croatian media.

Petrinja Mayor Darinko Dumbovic told the 24sata.hr newspaper that several people have died in the city of Petrinja and that more than half of the city has been destroyed. The rapporteur also confirms that a child has died.

For HRT TV, the mayor says her hometown is completely destroyed.

– This is like Hiroshima. Half the city is gone, he says.

– This is terrible. He’s dead, he’s hurt. We saw a child die in the square. The Petrinja center was destroyed, says an engineer who is there to assess the damage to the newspaper.

– Our seven engineers were buried in a collapsed building, but we managed to get them out. This is a disaster, send all the help you can, go on.

Al Jazeera newspaper reporter Marin Versic was in Petrinja, describing chaotic scenes in the city on Tuesday.

– We fear there will be more victims, he told the newspaper.

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic signs Twitter on the way to Petrinja.

20 injured citizens of Petrinja arrived at Sisak hospital around 2:35 pm, writes N1. Two were seriously injured.

– We use the army to transport the wounded, said Health Minister Vili Beros, who is in Sisak hospital.

He also said that transportation of Petrinja patients to Zagreb and Sisak hospitals has been arranged.

AFP reports that the nuclear power plant in Slovenia has been closed “for security reasons” due to the earthquake.
