This is confirmed by Manchester City itself in a press release. The game was originally scheduled to be played at 9pm Norway time.

On Christmas Day, it became clear that Gabriel Jesus and Kyle Walker tested positive for COVID-19, as well as two people from the club’s support staff.

The Manchester club writes that several people at the club have tested positive.

– Following the latest round of corona tests, there have been a number of positive tests, in addition to the four that were released on the first day of Christmas, the club writes in the press release.

Everton write in a press release on Monday night that they will request all the information Manchester City gave to the Premier League, so that they have a clear idea why the decision to postpone the match was made. Basically, the guidelines for the Premier League say that matches must be played as long as a team can field at least 14 players.

The Premier League writes in a press release that the positive tests were announced Monday morning. Manchester City beat Newcastle 2-0 just two days ago.

As there were later several positive tests within the team’s coronaboble, it was considered a risk of further spread between the players and the support apparatus, and based on the medical advice of the Premier League, it was decided that the match should be postponed.

Players and support devices will now be isolated for a period of time, and the training facilities will be closed indefinitely.

Both Aymeric Laporte and Riyad Mahrez have previously been infected with the coronavirus. Both City players tested positive in early September.

Manchester City are scheduled to face Chelsea on Sunday 3 January and will continue to play in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup against Manchester United on Wednesday 6 January. What happens to the two parties is still unclear.

On December 1, it became known that there was an outbreak at Newcastle United, where more than ten people from the club tested positive for covid-19. Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles was among those infected in the outbreak, and Newcastle manager Steve Bruce said last week that it has been a terrifying experience for players. Lascelles has not yet participated in the match, but returned to training three days ago.

A mutated coronavirus has plagued Britain in recent days. On Monday, more than 41,000 new corona infections were recorded, the highest that has been recorded in the country so far during the pandemic.
