Just hours after Stjørdal in Trøndelag canceled the entire Christmas slot, the neighboring municipalities of Hitra and Frøya also put their foot down. The hope is to stamp out the infection and prevent schools from closing in the new year.

Published:

As of Monday night, the fourth day of Christmas, you can have no more than five guests and no more than five close contacts for a week in the municipalities of Trøndelag, Hitra and Frøya.

All public events are prohibited and organized activity for anyone over the age of 19 is prohibited.

The regulation enters into force on December 28 at 11 p.m. and will last until January 4. In a joint press release from the two municipalities, however, there is no insult to the inhabitants:

– The fact that we are now introducing a regulation is NOT a sign of distrust towards the measures and recommendations in which the neighbors are already making a significant effort. in, the municipality of Frøya writes in the press release.

Gyms and similar venues must be kept closed, established in the regulation.

Closely intertwined municipalities

Hitra has 45 cases of infection in the past 14 days, most of those infected throughout the entire pandemic, the VG overview shows. Frøya, who has not been infected at all during the pandemic, has recorded five cases of infection in the past two weeks.

– Here in Frøya, we have not had an infection so far, just before Christmas. However, we have collided all the way with the neighboring municipality of Hitra. We consider ourselves a contagion region and a housing and labor market region, says Mayor Kristin Furunes Strømskag to VG.

He explains that it is the municipal chief who has now made the urgent decision, but that the background is that now they are going to quickly end the outbreak.

Will protect children

According to municipal chief doctor Ingrid Kristiansen in Frøya, the municipality has strong indications that those infected in Frøya are an offshoot of the outbreak in Hitra.

– Have you seen examples of the spread of the infection at Christmas parties or other Christmas events?

– So far we are not aware of that, but part of the infection we have now is related to meetings and events just before the Christmas holidays, says Kristiansen.

– What is the reason why the rules for social gatherings are tightening right now?

– It is now that we have a golden window for our measures to have a good effect, and to ensure that we do everything possible to keep schools and kindergartens open from the first week of the new year. It is very important to us to protect children, the young and the elderly, says municipal chief doctor Kristiansen.

The infection in Trøndelag has really accelerated, both in Trondheim and in various places around it. While Trondheim has tightened the rules and hired the police to help handle social gatherings and their aftermath, Stjørdal decided Monday that Christmas in space is “off”:

Residents are now being asked to refrain from being with anyone other than their own home.
