– There is no indication that anything criminal has happened, Operations Manager Kjetil Kaalaas in the Nordland Police District tells VG.

On Sunday evening, 19-year-old Nikolas Hafstad Hugås from Fauske in Nordland was reported missing. A huge search operation was launched when he did not return home from a party in Valnesfjord.

On Monday afternoon, shortly before 2:30 p.m., he was found dead at sea, under the ice.

– It was the condominiums that helped the police in the search, who found Hugås. He was then rescued by the fire service, operations manager Kjetil Kaalaas in the Nordland police district tells VG.

Kaalaas says the case is difficult to investigate, but notes that there is no indication that anything criminal has occurred.

– We are now conducting interviews with witnesses of those who were at the party with Nikolas on Sunday night. Also, we are looking for possible tests on your phone.

Hugås was last seen when he left the party in Valnesfjord at time 03. When the 19-year-old had not returned home on Sunday afternoon, his son’s family called the police.

Several crews of dogs and volunteers, as well as Bodø rescue helicopters and firefighters searched for the missing person. The police thank everyone who participated in the search operation.

On Monday morning, the police told VG they feared the boy had gotten cold and was going to the heater somewhere on the way home and asked people to search the garages and outbuildings.

Relatives have been informed of the death and know that the police are talking about the case in the media, says operations manager Kaalaas.
