After Joel Matip’s injury against West Bromwich, Carragher now believes Liverpool will have to go shopping in January.

At Liverpool’s 1-0 scoreline, once again one of the club’s midfielders had to leave with an injury, when Joel Matip felt a sensation in his groin about an hour after the game started.

As is known, it is not the first time this season that a stopper of the league leader is injured, nor is it the first time that the Cameroonian defender is fighting for something.

Carragher: – Great concern

Former Liverpool stopper Jamie Carragher, who played 737 games in the red jersey between 1997 and 2013, now believes Jürgen Klopp has no choice but to act when the transfer window opens in January.

– It is a great concern, but not a new concern. Joel Matip will not play every game from now until the end of the season. It was known before today’s injury (Sunday) and that’s why they have to sign someone in January, says Carragher.

– I don’t mean they’ll bring one at £ 70m, one like Virgil van Dijk – but one that can come in to make Liverpool not just two young midfielders. They must, they must do something in January, is the clear message of the club legend.

Klopp: – Obviously not so good

After the game, Klopp himself tells what he knows about Matip’s injury against West Bromwich.

– Joel told me he felt something in the adductor muscles (inside the thigh), and it’s obviously not that good.

– I’m not sure how bad it is now, but it was bad enough that I had to leave the field, says Klopp.

The German points out that Matip has done well in recent times in the absence of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, and that now they only have to wait to see if the Cameroonian also has to spend time on the sidelines in the future.

– He was in very good shape again. But we cannot change that and we have to accept it and move on, says the Liverpool manager.

The game against The Baggies ended 1-1, and the next game for Liverpool is now on Wednesday 30 December.
