The way the Bible is read is also not immune to the influence of the coronavirus in 2020. This year’s most widely read Bible verse indicates that people have sought comfort and support this year.

The corona pandemic is ubiquitous and has spread far and wide in a way that can be measured by how Biblical believers believe the Holy Spirit did it. The pandemic also affects the way the Bible is read.

According to Vårt Land, the most read Bible verse of the year in the popular Youversion Isaiah 41:10 Bible app, it reads as follows:

“Do not fear, because I am with you; do not fear, because I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you and I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.”

Bishop Ingeborg Midttømme of the Diocese of Møre is not surprised that more people have tried to find safety in this particular Bible verse this year.

– I fully understand the security it provides in our time with a pandemic. God has not promised us a future without adversity, suffering and pain, but He has promised to be with us in everything and everything, says Midttømme.
