On Christmas Day, the emergency room in Nordland’s Hamarøy municipality was closed after coronary artery disease was discovered in the office.
An employee had been diagnosed with an infection.
Therefore, everyone who had visited the doctor’s office after December 14 was asked to get in touch to get tested.
– It’s a serious situation, the mayor told An.no after the case was mentioned for the first time last night.
Long lines
The people at Hamarøy NRK have been in contact with say there has been a long wait for the test phone and a queue to get the corona test. But I am impressed with how quickly they have been able to stack a test device on their legs.
– Hamarøy is a small municipality. We have been lucky and got rid of the infection so far. It’s scary that he’s coming from the doctor’s office. Especially considering that there are a lot of older people and probably people in the risk group, says one person NRK has spoken with.
Test answer tomorrow
Responses to the numerous tests conducted by close contacts are expected to likely arrive tomorrow Sunday.
– We cross everything we have to get negative responses, but we are also prepared for someone to be positive, says Mayor Britt Kristoffersen in a press release.
Two cases of infection
Hamarøy has experienced two cases of infection this Christmas. In addition to the doctor’s office, one case was reported on Christmas Eve.
– These two are not connected, and now we think we have a good control of the infection trail after both cases, says Kristoffersen. The person infected on Christmas Eve is in isolation and all close contacts are quarantined and tracked. There are 15 close contacts, of which nine are in Hamarøy.
– Start to gain control
There are a total of 21 close contacts after infection in the doctor’s office and all of them are now in quarantine.
– In both cases, the infected have done everything according to the rules that apply. This means they were quarantined and then in isolation, says Kristoffersen.
Hamarøy Municipality believes it is in the process of getting a good handle on the situation.
– We have just concluded a crisis management meeting and the reports that come in say that we are working well at all levels, says Mayor Britt Kristoffersen in Hamarøy Municipality.
Both FHI and the Bodø Municipality and Steigen Municipality are involved to help.
Emergencies of the neighboring municipality
Residents are asked to go to the emergency room in the neighboring municipality of Steigen if they need physical medical supervision until further notice.
– For physical assistance, you must go to Steigentunet in Leinesfjord. Work is underway to find solutions for this, writes the municipality.
That means an additional travel time of about an hour and a half.
This is the second case of covid-19 that has been registered in Hamarøy.
