– You may want to make an assessment of whether should travel before you leave today, says Oslo police operations director Vidar Pedersen.

On Saturday afternoon, the Oslo police reported on difficult driving conditions in the capital and in various places in eastern Norway.

– Traffic is good, but it can get worse. Take it easy and drive according to conditions, Pedersen emphasizes.

It says police are currently on three different assignments regarding slippery roads.

– We are now in Hurum, where a car turned around and hit the guardrail. We’ve also stopped a trailer on summer tires, so these are typical challenges with people not driving under conditions, says the operations manager.

– If you are not properly shod, you must leave the car today. It can be worse at night, he says.

– The main road network will be good, but small roads are not always plowed and can get worse. But we have invested all available resources to improve the road.

Yr.no has issued a rain hazard warning in Sørlandet and parts of Østlandet, after both rain and snow were reported:

Will get better tonight

– Now it’s snowing hard from Oslo and the north. South of Oslo, it has turned to rain, and eventually it will also do so in the Oslo area, says meteorologist on duty at the Meteorological Institute, Terje Alsvik Walløe.

If you are in the Oslo area, he recommends waiting a couple of hours before driving.

– But on the main roads, most of it will be plowed and in better driving condition, says Alsvik Walløe.

There can be slippery roads throughout the southeast of the country. Indre Sørlandet can also have slightly subcooled rains, while temperatures along the coast have risen to six degrees.

It will continue to snow for a few hours in Østafjells.

The temperature in the southeastern country and the interior will increase mainly in the next few hours. Most people who woke up to a second white Christmas day will likely have a gray start to Space Christmas tomorrow.
