Warn of strong winds and storms this weekend – NRK Vestland

On Saturday and Sunday, a strong low pressure enters the North Atlantic, which will dominate the weekend weather across the country.

But it will be especially bad in the eastern mountains and in the southern mountain passes.

– There will be a lot of wind and a lot of precipitation. It will be a reduction in visibility with snowdrifts and likely problematic to keep some roads open, says state meteorologist Jon Austerheim.

But also in the lowlands there will be difficult driving conditions, especially in Agder, Telemark and north towards Oslo.

Heavy rains have been recorded in Austafjells.

Beware of slippery roads

– Drive carefully, especially if you are going to cross the mountain, is the encouragement from Austerheim.

That encouragement also comes from the road operator Ketil Molvær at the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.

– Those who, for example, have thought of Hardangervidda should come in and check the weather forecast before embarking on a journey to the east or west, says Molvær.

He also asks people to be aware that freezing rain can occur in the lowlands.

– Contractors are good at salting, but it’s good to note that it can be very slippery, says Molvær.

Much wind in the north

In the west several days have passed and temperatures have dropped and dropped below zero. Now it will be a noticeable change of weather.

Operations leader Tatjana Knappen in the West Police District says they don’t take special measures before the weather change, but instead follow them.

– It’s typical that when it snows in the Bergen area, there can be chaos, he says.

North of Stad and up in northern Norway, it will be the wind from the south and southeast that will give a dry climate.

But the window is solid, so a yellow warning was sent for Sunday for strong gusts from Saltfjellet and north of Sør-Troms.

Avalanche danger

In the mountains of southern Norway, the national road 50 Aurland – Hol is closed at night due to a problem with a barricade.

– On Sunday morning, it is very uncertain whether this mountain pass will open, says Molvær at the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.

The safest road over the mountain this weekend is probably the E16 Filefjell, possibly through Årdal – Tyin on Provincial Road 53.

Few have started the ski season. But if you should have lightened on the mountain with skis on your legs, it is important to consider the risk of avalanches.

On Sunday, a significant hazard was reported from naturally-caused landslides in Jotunheimen, Hardanger, West Telemark and Heiane.
