The cold change in temperature can also bring snow in some places in the east.
– It will be colder towards the Oslo area. Then there is the possibility of snow and sleet. It could be a white New Year in Oslo.
From Christmas 2 until the weekend, the meteorologist says there will be “normal western weather” in western Norway, in the form of wind and precipitation.
Unlike the Oslo area, the temperature rise will occur rapidly overnight until the second day of Christmas in western Norway. Hansen still says that the inner parts of western Norway must also drive carefully.
Until next week, temperatures will remain stable.
In the mountains it can become a strong gale. According to forecasts, it cannot be ruled out that the wind will pick up with storm force with snowdrifts on the mountain.
Saturated by precipitation
During the weekend, it is the southern and eastern part of Norway that receives the greatest weight of the incoming precipitation. Low pressure from the southeast blows over the country, which means that precipitation will fall on the east side of the mountain.
Hansen says it’s not about extreme rains, but there will be a lot.
– There has been a lot of rainfall in eastern Norway in general. The ground is saturated with precipitation, which will cause the precipitation that arrives in the next few days to escape from the surface. So rivers can become larger than normal and landslides can occur, he says.
Several places throughout southern and eastern Norway have already set new precipitation records. Hansen says up to 600-700 millimeters are recorded in the wettest places.
– It’s a lot to be in those areas.
A maximum of 50-70 millimeters is expected from Sør-Rogaland to Agder, Telemark and Vestfold over the weekend. On Monday it will slow down a bit, but is still expected to reach 30-40 millimeters in parts of southern and eastern Norway.

If Hansen is to be believed, it is central and northern Norway that has the best Christmas space weather. Despite the low temperatures, there will be many places with good weather.
