MOVIE: Well then, it shouldn’t be the case that family movies need to invent gunpowder, or something more kid-friendly, every time. There are some proven stories that are told in different versions, over and over again. But chances are high that even your two-year-old will roll his eyes at “Operation North Pole: The Adventure of Change” and say “I heard it before.”
This is the story of the polar fox Svippen, who lives at the North Pole and who desperately wants to become a sled dog and drive mail across the desert, but the movie itself doesn’t stray an inch from the arranged path. Yeah, and then there’s a slutty girl Svippen is trying to impress, there’s a pronounced morality that it’s best to be yourself and work together, and it turns into a picky confrontation with a particularly uncharismatic naughty who, believe it or not. . no, he wants to destroy Svippen’s house.
Medium entertainment
This does not mean that “Operation North Pole – The Flip on Adventure” is bad to watch. It is, as such, a well-oiled, action-packed, and fairly average professional family movie of the kind that can entertain young children while Daddy sleeps in the theater seat next door. The arctic landscape is rendered in a nice, muted color palette, but the details of the snow and houses are not rendered in the kind of detail we’re used to seeing, having been pampered by Pixar for a few decades.
Climate change
“Operation North Pole – The Flip on Adventure” is, moreover, a trend in genre films of recent years, where underlying concerns about nature and its exploitation. It’s not that hard to see a climate change concern in the fight against an evil engineer who wants to drill knee deep in the Arctic. And in that case, it’s a good idea to hit the main audience on the go. This, being themselves, they have probably already experienced.
