MJØNDALEN (VG) (Mjøndalen – Aalesund 3-0) For 45 content-rich minutes, everything was turned upside down in the background battle. Mjøndalen now has a chance to save space against Sogndal on December 28.

It was only a quarter of an hour before Mjøndalen broke through the Start and climbed to the qualifying spot.

At the same time that Vålerenga turned the start at the Intility Arena, Sondre Liseth and Markus Nakkim made it 1-0 and 2-0 before 17 minutes were up.

– It’s a thankless job being a defensive player, so it was great trying to advance on the field. We’ve been looking forward to this match for a long time, and when we hear how things are going at Intility, it gives the guys energy, Markus Nakkim smiles at VG.

All went well for Mjøndalen for the first 45 minutes of the match.

– It’s shocking and totally unexpected. We hadn’t thought about it, Gauseth tells VG that goal difference changed a lot during the first half.

In extra time in the first half, Mjøndalen captain Christian Gauseth increased to 3-0 from the chalk mark. Now he is looking forward to Sogndal’s match.

– We have fought for a second chance. We are not dead yet and it is incredibly inspiring. “We feel like we have earned this qualifying spot here,” smiles Gauseth.

Mjøndalen has not scored a goal this season. Even lost, Aalesund has scored more goals than the brown jerseys, which held up with a poor 23 goals in 29 games before Tuesday’s fateful match.

– How was your heart rate after the game?

– It hurt from Adam’s apple to my diaphragm. Out in the fight, I don’t know what’s wrong. Am I congested or hungry? You don’t really know what’s going on, Mjøndalen’s coach Vegard Hansen tells VG.

The already relegated Aalesund, however, seemed to be mentally everywhere but Consto Arena.

– We don’t move our legs and nothing works, says AaFK coach Lars Arne Nilsen.

The guests were nowhere near anything, and it could quickly have been more than 3-0 at halftime as well.

In the second half, it was all about controlling Mjøndalen’s victory on clay, which in the course of one half had gone from needing four goals “in its own way” to being three ahead.

Although Aalesund went up a bit after the break, Mjøndalen was never threatened in practice.

– First of all a great relief. We knew we had to win by three goals, Vålerenga also helps. We show that we are adults and that we are mentally strong. I’m proud of the way we won today, striker Sondre Liseth tells VG.

The victory means that Mjøndalen will play a qualifying match against Obos-treer Sogndal, who defeated Ranheim on Tuesday afternoon.

– We do not intend to spend Christmas without being able to do this. Now it’s Christmas at home, then back to training on the first day of Christmas, Ole Amund Sveen smiles at VG.

The game will be played at Intility Arena on December 28.
