Bad weather, especially in the southern mountain passes, makes driving conditions difficult on Christmas Eve. Several mountain passes are closed or have column conduction.

Snowdrifts and strong winds make the country’s southern mountain passes especially vulnerable.

In both Haukelifjell, Dovrefjell and Hardangervidda, conditions are bad. Inland there are reports of very slippery roads.

– We receive reports of very slippery places inside. Pay attention, drive in accordance with the conditions and keep your distance from each other, tweets Vegtrafikksentralen Øst.

Tuesday night’s traffic picture does not indicate that Christmas traffic has started in earnest, which may be related to bad weather and that more people are waiting until Wednesday to get going.

Meteorologists warn

According to the Meteorological Institute, the weather will improve throughout the day on Christmas Eve, but it will be really unpleasant on Tuesday night and during the night.

– We have sent a warning about snowdrifts and wind in the mountains, says state meteorologist Marit Berger to NRK.

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration advises that several mountain passes can be closed on short notice. On Haukelifjell was the column Tuesday night driving due to weather. The E134 over Vikafjell is closed. The Norwegian Public Roads Administration informs NRK that they are closely monitoring the traffic situation.

– It will start to explode in Hardangervidda. If people are going to cross the mountain tonight, they should be aware that there may be column driving. They must carry food, drink and electricity on their mobile phones, says the call from the traffic operator Eirik Elnes in Vegtrafikksentralen to Bergens Tidende.
