FHI will examine the virus
The person is now isolated and has had little contact with other people after arriving in Norway.
The National Institute of Public Health (NIPH) will now test for the virus, according to the mayor.
– We will examine the genetic material of the virus. That way we can detect the mutation, says Frode Forland, director of infection control at FHI.
The analysis is more comprehensive than a standard virus test. In three to four days, FHI will receive an answer as to whether the virus is a mutated variant.

The municipality’s head of infection control, Steinar Jacobsen, says the person has acted in accordance with the book and therefore has few close contacts.
– The person in question proved himself after coming to Gardermoen and has protected society from himself, says Jacobsen.
The person in question received private transportation from Oslo airport to Ullensvang. The person who helped with the transport is the close contact and also lives in Ullensvang.
Fear of virus mutation in Norway

The National Institute of Public Health has asked all municipalities to mark positive samples with patients who have been to the UK, according to Forland. The evidence is sent for analysis, but the case of Ullensvang is the only one that has been reported after the entry into force of new measures.
– We cannot be sure that the mutation has not reached Norway. The mutation was discovered in September in the UK and there has been a lot of travel between countries during this time, Forland says.
Discovered in various countries
The virus mutation has also been found in Denmark, the Netherlands, Italy and Australia, among other places, he says.

It is estimated that the new variant of the virus may be 70 percent more contagious than the original variant of the virus. The virus does not appear to cause more serious illness.
On Monday, an SMS was also sent to all UK travelers that visitors must test in the last 14 days.
