Sheffield United confirms Sander Berge strain injury

Only six minutes had passed when Sander Berge lay down on the grass and grabbed the back of his thigh. After a quick review of Sheffield United’s medical device, the Norwegian was replaced.

On Friday, Sheffield United confirmed to TV 2 that Berge has a strain injury.

– Sander has suffered a stress injury and is highly doubtful for Sunday’s game, the club confirms on Friday.

Berge, who has been a regular on Chris Wilder’s team, will lose the away game against Brighton. The following week, Sheffield United take on Everton at home.

Sheffield United have just one point from 13 games in this year’s Premier League season. If Berge does not prepare for Sunday’s game and, in the worst case, stays out longer, it will be a huge loss for the team desperately seeking points.

– Losing Sander was a huge blow to us. He’s certainly been our best player this season so we had to switch, manager Chris Wilder told TV 2 after the loss to Manchester United on Thursday.

He also pointed out the importance of scoring points in upcoming matches. That they have to be played without Berge will make it even more difficult for the last team at the table.

– We must have faith. If I don’t have it, we can pack up and go home. We still have a little fighting spirit. The gap has widened, which is disappointing, because we have done enough to be able to close it in the last three or four games. The challenge will be to close the gap in the next two or three games, Wilder says.
