The Armed Forces reduce frigate navigation according to the Helge Ingstad report

The safety recommendations were outlined in a consultation draft of the Norwegian Accident Investigation Board’s sub-report 2 on the Helge Ingstad shipwreck, the Defense Ministry informs NTB.

– It is noted that all frigates are certified and in seaworthy condition. However, the sum of the deviations pointed out in the draft of AIBN’s sub-report 2, which we prepare an overall assessment that will form the basis for our further work on competition, procedures and technical matters, reports the Chief of Defense, General Eirik Kristoffersen, NTB.

Three ships will remain at Haakonsvern in January, while the KNM Otto Sverdrup frigate prepares to sail for training purposes in the UK.

Stock management plan

In November 2018, the AIBN issued a preliminary report on the frigate accident. The report, which will now arrive in March 2021, is subreport two. This is about what happened after the collision, which finally ended with the sinking of KNM Helge Ingstad.

Kristoffersen notes that AIBN’s preliminary report number two is very detailed. Based on the findings of previous survey reports, various measures have been applied as a follow-up to external and internal surveys.

– So we will use January to prepare an updated plan on how deviations will be handled, says Kristoffersen.

The blame has yet to be shared

More than two years have passed since the KNM Helge Ingstad frigate collided with the tanker Sola outside the Sture terminal in Øygarden. Last year, it was decided that the frigate should not be repaired. This summer, the frigate was tendered for decommissioning, where it will be turned into scrap metal.

The crash, crash and subsequent failed salvage have been investigated, investigated and investigated, but the processes have not yet been completed and blame has not been apportioned.

In September, the trial, where the state and the Sola TS owners have sued each other, should have started, but the case has been postponed until early 2021. The court will decide on the responsibility of each of the parties for the damage resulting from the collision.
