Runar Søgaard: – In an ugly accident at home

It has been a busy fall for former pastor Runar Søgaard (53). Headlines have been online since he published the autobiography “God gave us ten commandments, I have broken nine of them” a few months ago.

Both the Norwegian and Swedish press were filled with stories of the 53-year-old’s wild life: everything from an extravagant lifestyle to an extremely turbulent marriage to Carola Häggkvist (53) was put under the microscope in the book of more than 260 pages.

Thus, there is reason to believe that the 53-year-old was looking forward to a quiet Christmas celebration with the family.

In an interview with Aftonbladet, however, it appears that not everything went exactly according to plan when I was decorating for Christmas recently.

– I hit some ribs. I fell off a ten-foot ladder when I was going to hang the Christmas lights. The ribs are shot, but I have to chew some pills, then everything will work, Søgaard tells the newspaper.

– Terribly painful

When Dagbladet lights the Søgaard thread, he emphasizes that it was a glass plate that he had to hang.

He further explains that the accident occurred four weeks ago when he and his children had just moved to a villa in Stockholm.

– Then I was standing on the top step of a curtain ladder that was three meters high. There I was left with the large glass plate which is very valuable and should definitely not break. As I fell, I refused to let go of the large plate and fell directly onto a glass table, he says.

The glass table he fell onto did not break and, humorously, Søgaard believes this may have something to do with the fact that he has lost weight in recent weeks as a result of a harsh training regimen.

– I have probably lost twelve or thirteen kilos, so it probably saved both life and health, he says with a laugh, before adding in a more serious tone:

– But it could have gone terribly wrong.

The glass plate he was holding was also undamaged, but Søgaard in turn took a real hit.

– It has been excruciatingly painful in recent weeks, share.

I had to go to the hospital

Søgaard, who says he’s the type who rarely goes to the hospital, waited a few days in hopes the pain would go away.

– But it only got from bad to worse, so I was forced to go there. There they said that there were three ribs that had been broken and that he had received a real blow to the arm and shoulder. I’ll have an MRI next week, Søgaard continues.

– Were you scared? Were they scared?

– No, I didn’t have time to be afraid. My kids were in shock and staring, and then my manager’s husband was on the second floor and he set up the television, heard the knock, and wondered if he had survived, he replies.

– If the thick glass table had broken and exploded, I don’t dare to think about what could have happened, he adds.

Waiting for Christmas

As a result of the fall, Søgaard has had great trouble sleeping at night.

– I never find a position that I can sleep in that doesn’t hurt, so there has been very little sleep and a lot of pain.

However, despite the pain, Søgaard is really looking forward to this year’s Christmas celebration and can tell you that it takes place both in this country and in Sweden.

As a result of his work, he travels a lot between Stockholm and Oslo.

– On Christmas Eve I will be with my children and parents in Stockholm, and on Christmas Eve and New Year I will be in Oslo. There is nothing better than Norwegian Christmas ribs and dumplings. It’s not Christmas without him and sauerkraut, he says.
