Groceries, Kiwi | Now holiday prices are plummeting at discount chains – here are the biggest hits

[ad_1]

A week before Christmas Eve, several Christmas items have dropped in price. Now you can do some good shopping, Gjerrigknarken believes.

Last week, Nettavisen wrote that the price of various Christmas items was much higher than at the same time last year. Christmas marzipan with chocolate coating, for example, was four times more expensive on December 10 this year compared to December 9, 2019.

The chains say they have lowered the prices of hundreds of products, instead of pricing a few Christmas items at a very low and artificial price, as has been the case before Christmas in recent years.

Now, however, it seems that they are turning around, for this week the prices of many Christmas items have been firmly fixed in the three low-price chains Kiwi, Rema 1000 and Extra.

Prisras

  • Christmas marzipan with chocolate coating from Nidar It is still far from last year’s price of 4 kroner in Kiwi, but is now at 14.40 kr. instead of 16.90 kr. as it was last week. The same low price can be found on Rema and Extra. The normal price is NOK 26.90.
  • Do you really want cheap Nidar Christmas Marzipan, the 193 gram bag may be an even better option. It sells for NOK 22.90 in Kiwi, a price per kilo of about half the Christmas pig and well below the normal price.
  • A real bargain, which is not far behind previous years, is ground mulled wine, which discount chains now sell for around five crowns per half a liter. The usual price of this item is NOK 39.90, so here we are talking about a discount close to 90 percent.
  • Melis It has also dropped a couple of kronor in price, and is now at 5.90 kr. Instead of 7.90 kr in low price chains, and a normal price that is usually more than twice as high.
  • Cream cheese de Tine is another where there has been a price war in recent weeks, and it has dropped in price, something we have mentioned several times. But Tine also has a price drop Edamerost of 850 grams received, because only in the last week it has gone from costing 74-76 crowns in low price chains, to 56 crowns in all low price chains. However, both cheeses can be hard to come by at the store.
  • An item that has also dropped a lot in price in recent days is Twist-pose of Freia. It usually costs SEK 74.40, but now the price has dropped to SEK 44.90.
  • Fjordland rice porridge 970 grams, it is normally 33.90 crowns, while now the price has dropped to 13 crowns in the low price chains.

Well below normal price

It can also be mentioned that individual chains have specific offers for their chain. One of the really good deals this week is Breakfast Coffee Coop at 7.92 crowns per 250 grams.

Both Rema and Kiwi also sell different packages almond potatoes at less than five crowns a kilo, well below the normal price.

At the same time, you should keep in mind that not all Christmas offers are equally good. Fjordland rice porridge in a 460 gram package costs NOK 12.90 in low price chains. It may seem like a good buy until you find out that the corresponding 970 gram pack costs 13 crowns at the same store.

– Positive

Rune Nikolaisen, who is behind Gjerrigknark.com, reacts positively when Nettavisen presents him with some of the reduced prices.

– This is better. Many people are hoping to buy classic Christmas items at a reasonable price, and at these prices, their wallet is less expensive, he says.

Nikolaisen believes that chains can exert some pressure from consumers and the media, but this provides them with good opportunities to gain the goodwill of customers in a simple way.

– It is positive that prices have dropped more, and now they need to take out the Christmas items. But prices don’t have to drop to a crown for us to be happy, he says.

He believes that people will accept the prices as they are now.

– They are good prices, but not so low that it is emptied of goods. It will be a bit for everyone. After all, it’s Christmas and everyone should get it, says Nikolaisen, noting that Christmas items that are extremely low prices often sell out quickly.

– Make sure it’s cheap

Kristine Aakvaag Arvin, communications manager for Kiwi, promises that they will push prices every day to be the cheapest on both Christmas and other items.

– There is always stiff competition at this time and it tends to intensify in the last days before Christmas. Several goods have fallen in price in recent days, he tells Nettavisen.

However, you cannot say anything about how prices will change in the coming days.

– You can rest assured that you buy cheap if you buy from us now. In the situation we’re in, it may be a good idea to do your Christmas shopping early to prevent stores from filling up, says Arvin.

– In full swing

Neither Coop, which owns the low-priced chain Extra, nor Rema 1000 can say anything about the price outlook going forward.

– How the price outlook will be towards Christmas is the market that decides, we will do what we can to have the cheapest Christmas food, says Harald Kristiansen, communications consultant at Coop Norway.

– Of course we cannot comment on prices in the future, but we will always give our customers the lowest prices possible, so that we can promise good bargains on lots of Christmas food until the big day, says Calle Hägg, public relations manager and Rema 1000 communications.

Both Hägg and Kristiansen en Coop note that price competition is in full swing and it is normal for the competition to be tougher at this time.

– I can confirm that Extra, which was the first to cut prices on Christmas items, continues to adjust prices every day to offer customers the cheapest shopping cart for Christmas, says Kristiansen.
